Achieving balance is one of the most important things in design. We had three objectives when tasked with transforming this kitchen. We had to affect a modern look that was not overdone. It had to be simplistic, basic, and functional – yet not losing form and beauty. Not wild, nor subtle, this was a child that had to be tamed neutral – and thus the team when to work and created a work of natural art.
It could have been carved out of a serene picture of a wooded homestead, and brought to life right in the heart of Singapore. Natural wood laminates were used against clean whites for that ‘out of the earth’ concept. The creative approach was deliberately clean cut and basic, to bring out that simplistic feature and create a solid design template. The kitchen sports a stainless steel backing at the cooking area, a sliding table that can be turned into a breakfast table and a hairline stainless steel laminate as the cabinet door. Let us not forget the angled white solid kitchen cabinet top. All the colours are awash, and picked deliberately to create a contemporary and natural look, simple in guise, yet functional in every way possible.
